Using Copied Victoria Cross Silver Proof Fifty Pence Image

Copyright Theft

Perhaps we should be flattered by the number of people including dealers who continually infringe our IP (Intellectual Property) rights by using our copyright images and blatantly copying our text, word for word in some cases such as this one, but we do not find it amusing, and will take legal action against any copyright thieves.

coinupdate is just one of the many coin dealers, bloggers & websites worldwide who commit copyright theft by using our copyright images without our permission. On their webpage they are clearly using our Victoria Cross Silver Proof Fifty Pence photograph.

Interview with Claire Aldridge, Designer of the Royal Mint Olympic Countdown Series

The XXX Olympiad is almost upon us and it’s been a long seven-plus years since the IOC announced that London was awarded the Games, against some strict competition and long-standing rivalries. With the announcement in 2007, the Royal Mint began to plan several coins to mark the occasion.

The first Olympic-themed coin, and for the occasion, was a “Hand-over ceremony” two pound coin issued in 2008 which resulted in a sell-out within weeks. The next coin issued in 2009 was the start of a four-year run called the “Countdown series” and would involve a coin issued each year until the start of the Games in 2012. The designer of these striking coins is Claire Aldridge, one of the Royal Mint’s senior designers who has conceptualized her idea of the countdown to the Games on four coins which have been described as both contemporary and artistically challenging.

Published by Whitman Publishing, LLC, they are quite a big numismatic publisher and we can safely presume that the other images, including ours, were included by Whitman, not Michael Alexander.

What’s Wrong?

We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin and gold bar images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us. It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar item, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.
