Copyright Theft

Perhaps we should be flattered by the number of people including dealers who continually infringe our IP (Intellectual Property) rights by using our copyright images, but we do not find it amusing, and will take legal action against any copyright thieves.

gainesvillecoins.com

Gainesville Coins is just one of the many coin dealers, bloggers & websites worldwide who commit copyright theft by using our copyright images without our permission. They have repeatedly used different images, without permission. On their website, a page of which we reproduce here, they are clearly using our 1967 Swiss 5 Francs photographs.

They have added text over the images to claim them as their own. This is totally dishonest and misleading.

Sample Listing

The Switzerland 5 Franc Silver Coin measures 31.45mm in diameter and is made with .4027 oz of silver. Silver Swiss Franc coins had the highest silver content of circulating European coins in the mid-20th Century. Many of these coins were lost when the silver content exceeded the face value and they were mass-purchased to be melted down, so the Swiss government withdrew their silver coins from circulation in 1967. The Swiss franc is the only franc coin remaining in Europe since the advent of the Euro. Today, the stability of the Swiss franc results in its use as a reserve currency throughout the world.

Front/Obverse

The obverse presents a chest-high bust of the hero William Tell, looking right. The words “Confoederatio Helvetica” (Latin for Swiss Confederation) encircle the bust.

Rear/Reverse

The reverse features the Arms of Switzerland flanked by branches. The denomination “5FR.” with square period is above the shield, and the date and mintmark are below.

What’s Wrong?

It is dishonest and unethical to pirate and steal other people’s work by using high quality copyright photographs without the owner’s consent. We can partially understand why they do it; it is quick and easy (but then so is robbing people).
