eBay user leejames79

leejames79 of Newbury, United Kingdom, stole our undated 20 pence coin photograph to use on eBay, without our permission, to try to sell his own. Totally dishonest. Image theft is endemic on eBay, and most sellers appear not to care whether their buyers are deceived.

eBay Copyright Thieves

Many eBay vendors use our coin photographs to sell inferior quality coins on eBay. These eBay members are dishonest and should be avoided.
We believe eBay profits from IP rights infringements (copyright theft), and does so knowingly, only removing infringing items reluctantly, if at all.

What’s Wrong?

We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin and gold bar images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us. It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar item, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.

Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers. The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, he is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.

Date:
19th January 2013
Description:
GENUINE UNDATED 20p TWENTY PENCE MULE COIN NO DATE BOTH SIDES ROYAL MINT ERROR
Price:
£86.00.

The seller was asking for a starting price of £50.00.

Usually, when eBay users sell a coin on eBay, by the time eBay have deducted their fees, and charges from PayPal have been applied, they would have got more selling their coin to us, rather than stealing our photographs. However, with this coin, we would not have paid £86 for it, in fact we are now offering just £5 for the undated 20 pence coins. At the time, there was a large amount of hype and hysteria over the fact some coins were going for such large amounts. There were reports of some finders selling their undated 20 pence coin on eBay for over £7,000. These people were very lucky and managed to sell their coins at the right time, unfortunately for all the other ‘lucky’ finders, the hype decreased at a rapid rate. As you can see here, we estimated how quickly the price would decrease and to what.

It is worth noting though, that despite the high selling price for this coin, over 4 years after these coins were discovered, we believe to be a direct result of false marketing, by having used our photograph, to make his coin look to be much higher quality than it probably is.
