eBay User andrewbe07 of ‘Bennett’s Buttons’ Using Copied Images

andrewbe07 of Manchester, United Kingdom stole our 1974 Virgin Islands Silver Proof One Dollar photograph to use on eBay, without our permission, to try to sell his own. Totally dishonest. Image theft is endemic on eBay, and most sellers appear not to care whether their buyers are deceived.

eBay Copyright Thieves
Many eBay vendors use our coin photographs to sell inferior quality coins on eBay. These eBay members are dishonest and should be avoided.
We believe eBay profits from IP rights infringements (copyright theft), and does so knowingly, only removing infringing items reluctantly, if at all.

What’s Wrong?

We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin and gold bar images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us. It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar item, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.

Copyright theft is dishonest. In this instance the seller has used many images. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers. The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, he is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.

Sample Listing:

You are bidding on a Sterling (925) Silver Virgin Islands One Dollar, minted in 1973 in fantastic condition.

This coin is in brilliant condition, with some birds on the obverse and with queen elizabeth II on the reverse. It weighs 26 grams on my scales.
This would be ideal to add to any coin collection or as an investment piece / silver bullion. This is a perfect time to invest in precious metals, with all the economic uncertainty surround the eurozone and the global consequences of this, precious metal prices are only going to go in one direction. In fact at its 52 week high this coin would have been £21 in scrap value alone, never mind their historic/artistic/collectable value.
In my opinion precious metals are almost guaranteed to be a better return than any savings account you can find given current interest rates, and coins hold their value even better than precious metal commodities.
Good luck bidding, and any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Date:
15th October, 2012

Description: Solid Silver $1 Dollar Virgin Islands 1973 Proof Coin

The seller was asking for a buy it now price of £20.00.

Even after eBay’s greedy 10% selling fees, and possible PayPal charges, the seller would almost certainly have been much better off selling the coins to us, instead of stealing our photographs.
