Constablecoins.co.uk are a company that have just been brought to our attention. A quick look at their website shows that they are using a number of our images which they have altered slightly by changing the colouring. We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin and gold bar images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
They have stolen our 1977 Queen’s Silver Jubilee, Silver Proof Crown Obverse and Reverse photographs and are using them, without our permission, to try to sell their own. Totally dishonest. Image theft is endemic and most sellers appear not to care whether their buyers are deceived.
We have identified more images on their website which we believe are copied from ours, most have been doctored, either to improve them or disguise them. We are still examining these to see not only which are ours, buts also to positively identify which of our photos they have copied.
Legitimate Business?
It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar item, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.
According to CompanyCheck.co.uk the company’s assets as of 13/09/2012 were worth £2,738, with their net worth being £-3,288. For a company that claims to be “one of the UK’s leading gold and silver coin trading companies” that is a very low amount.
What’s Wrong?
Copyright theft is dishonest. In this instance the seller has used many images. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers. The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, he is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.
It is dishonest and unethical to pirate and steal other people’s work by using high quality copyright photographs without the owner’s consent. We can partially understand why they do it; it is quick and easy (but then so is robbing people).
Copyright Theft
Perhaps we should be flattered by the number of people including dealers who continually infringe our IP (Intellectual Property) rights by using our copyright images, but we do not find it amusing, and will take legal action against any copyright thieves.
Laughably Wild Claims
Constable Coins claim “Constable Coins is one of the UK’s leading gold and silver coin trading companies. Based in the heart of “Constable Country” in the beautiful East Anglian countryside, we specialise in the most widely-traded gold and silver coins from ancient Roman coins through to present day issues, and of course the mighty Gold Sovereign.”
In that case, how come we had never heard of them before now?
